Policy Violations
15 months agoPolicy violations. What are they?
Anything that goes against the Submission Policy is subject to deletion... but not many of you have taken the time to read it, amirite?
S'okay.
I am here to help you understand what it's all about, in simple terms.Break it down!
1- Everything you submit on MangaBullet must be made by you (this is a given!)
2- If you don't have permission from the original creator to use their work, don't post it.
3- All mature content must be tagged as such, or it risks deletion.
4- Recolors are not allowed - colouring manga scans, for example. (If an artist gives you permission to colour their own art, link to the line art please).
5- Edits to copyrighted content are not allowed. (ex: editing the hairstyle on a screenshot and calling it yours)
6- Traces and vector traces are not allowed.
7- Photographing someone's artwork and submitting it is not allowed. (it's okay if it's not the main focus!)
8- Anime/TV screen shots are not allowed.
9- If you submit heavily-referenced artwork, please include a link to the reference image.
10- Continuing to break these rules can lead to a ban (and eventually, an indefinite ban).
A few common misconceptions and some clarification...
1- Erotic/excessively sexual art goes against the policy, it should be deleted!!! *reports like mad*
This is false. This sort of art does NOT go against our current policies, and will not be deleted, no matter how many times it is reported. I've received a few repeat reports on the same piece by the same person, probably hoping that it would be removed. It doesn't matter how inappropriate you think it is, it won't be removed unless there is a valid reason for it to be.
HOWEVER, please note that it MAY be subject to deletion if there is no Mature Content tag on it. Be aware of this! If you see mature content without a mature tag, please report it right away so we can fix the problem. We don't want innocent eyes to come across it by mistake!
2- All reported art is deleted.
Not true! We take every report case-by-case and make sure we don't delete things JUST because they were reported.
3- deviantART didn't delete my (traced/vector) artwork! SEE??!?! It's proof that I made it!!
This is absolutely false. Do you know how many artworks are submitted on deviantART every day? There are thousands upon thousands! How can you expect the moderators to remove every piece of traced art work as it is submitted? Also, MangaBullet's policies and deviantART's policies are not exactly the same. We are two completely different sites with different views and different rules. It's your responsibility to read the policy... after all, you DO have to click the little check box that says "I agree to the Submission Policy" every time you submit something...

4- You said you allow sexually explicit art on MB!! Why did you delete [insert art here]?!
There are a number of reasons why it could have been deleted. Let's list content that is illegal on MangaBullet:
• racial hatred/discriminatory imagery
• imagery containing subjects under the age of 18 engaged in either sexually explicit conduct, graphic bestiality, sadistic or masochistic abuse, or sexual intercourse
• in photography, nude subjects that appear under the age of 18
• distasteful photography or videography of sexual acts (pornography) [your account WILL be indefinitely suspended for this!]
5- I don't agree with the reasons why my art was deleted. I want to talk to someone about it.
You're free to talk to me about it, if you like (just send me a PM!). Also, feel free to contact the other gallery moderators here on MangaBullet if you have something to complain about.
Conclusion
If you have any questions/concerns about the Submission Policy, feel free to ask your question here and I will try to give you a clear answer.

You can also PM me any time about the art you can upload, deletion of art, complaints about deleted art, complaints about the policy, whatever you want, I won't bite your head off!
I'm also encouraging you all to click the report button whenever you see something suspicious. We will NOT delete everything reported, obviously that would be stupid! XD We try to do a thorough investigation before deleting anything, just so you know, but any help in this process is greatly appreciated!

Frequently asked questions
We're looking to build upon our FAQ list. If you haven't noticed, the list has grown quite a lot in the last few weeks! Any questions you have that you want the FAQ to address, please let us know! (you can comment about it in this journal and I'll make a note of it!)
Thank you for reading all of this XD!

I LOVE YOU.

SP for Dummies, anyone?
You've written it in such a ridiculously simple manner that it'll be hard for people who've read this to not know the Submission Policy.
Unless they're plain ignorant, gravely in denial or a theft-addict. ^^U

ROFL... XD
you're funny.
Yeah, I did simplify it to the best of my abilities
I'm glad it seems easy to understand. Although I doubt many of the people who are breaking the policy actually will read this journal ahaha XD is okay though! As long as a single person has been enlightened, I feel that I've done my job

xDDThey don't read the Submission Policy; how could we expect them to read the little things? =p *Shot* Yeah, mean. Haha!
*Spams with love*
Wow! O_O Thanks a lot! ^^ (Honestly) I don't read the Submission Policy when I join sites like these sometimes. It's sooo LONG.
; I know I know. It's wrong. But then, I commit the sin Sloth everyday and I don't know how to take that Sloth out of me. ^^

*rips the sloth outta you* THERE YA GO! :'D
Nah, it's okay, I honestly didn't read the Submission Policy before I began uploading things.. I don't think people normally do LOL.. we kinda say, "ah, it's okay, I'm pretty sure I know the rules! *upload*"
We're all like that, until we're faced with a work being deleted... or some other similar event. ^^

I think we really should read the Submission Policy. It reminds me back then when I use to edit. *shudder* Also reminds me of a certain girl from deviantART (MaruMariMaru...) It was really freaky when people ganged up on her and worshiped her at the same time. O_O If I were her, I'd go crazy.

Thanks tarahm, this definitely helps remind me of what's in the submission policy without having to actually read it again.
To be honest, MB's the first and only site I've actually thoroughly read its submission policy for some ungodly reason. XD MB's special I guess.

Haha! MB is special!

Well, I've read through most of dA's policies in the past and their FAQs (because I was constantly going on reporting-rampages - obviously I was reporting work that went against the policies LOL, not just for the fun pissing people off XD). But I don't know the rules inside out because I never cared or bothered to read all of it :'D

*huggles special MB* : D
Same, I never did bother on dA. O-O I just went with what I think I knew...which probably isn't at all a good idea... *cough* <.<

Sad thing is, people still won't understand/read what you've posted and still do it. But every site has those few idiots. A lot of the art thieves from dA will probably come here, just like they migrate to AG and sA and all the other art places. Once they're caught they just keep finding other art spots to go to. It's kind of sad. ;; Luckily I've never had the entire 'traced my art omg ban them!' problem.
Concept theft, but never actual art theft. xD Best of luck kicking people for being idiots!

I agree that art-thieves will be art-thieves, tracers will be tracers, and violators will be violators... but I'm looking at this in a positive way. I'm hoping to have enlightened even just a single person by posting this as a journal.
There's no doubt that more art-thieves will come on over to MB, I wholly expect it (there was already a case). I'm not trying to prevent that, haha. I'm just trying to incite more people to know about the rules and help report violating work (because, goodness, it isn't an easy job!).
Yeah, they kinda are sad beings. I don't understand what you could possibly get out of stealing art. A false sense of talent? No clue what goes through these people's minds XD. I'm lucky not to have had anything stolen either.
Haha, thanks. I'll make sure to keep them in line (or try to, at the very least!)

Fantastic journal! Simple, direct, and very clear.
If anyone breaks rules after reading this, it would have to be deliberate. Thanks for doing this.

Haha thank you, sir! Glad you like it
I didn't know you were part of the MB team, Tarah!
I'm so happy you broke it down. I had trouble understanding it at first. I love MB's rules and conducts, they're so user-friendly.

I read the Submission Policy when I first came to MangaBullet, but it's great to see such a detailed breakdown of it, Tarah, nice job!
I'm sure this will make it clearer for some of the members that are still unsure about submitting their art.

I'll be honest, I don't think I read it when I first got here ||lOTL but I did when I began seeing some possibly violating works in the gallery, and then I was intrigued and decided to read it to make sure I wouldn't report work that was accepted here on MB XD!!
I hope it will indeed make it just a bit clearer for some people, and reassure others
Thanks Riani!

Lawl. I suppose policies and such look a bit daunting at first, hehe. We have a huge folder of them at work and when I first started the lady showing me everything said, "Try and read a few when you can." And I just thought, "Yeah right!" lolz. I can't stand stuff that doesn't appeal to me.
I'm sure it will.
No prob! *hugs*

I am very happy to have read this because I admit I haven't read through all of the submission policy |D It is very nice to know that vectors and the sort are not allowed here. I get so sick of seeing them on DA.
You and me both D: I'm disappointed in dA for allowing vector-traces, urgh.
I'm hoping to give the policy/rules more exposure so more people will perhaps have more incentive to read the rules
or at least get a vague idea of what's acceptable and not acceptable.
I'm guilty to having not read policies in the past (honestly, who isn't?)but I can probably recite MB's submission policy by heart LOLL :'D

Thank you very much, this is informative. After just being through a minefield of incoherent policies on another site, one of the truly refreshing things about MangaBullet for me IS its coherency.
I do have one question though. You've said that if you colour in someone's lineart, you need to link to them. I've only got two pictures in my gallery and both are lineart from Spoiled-Kitten. I'm learning how to colour and she's the one advising me etc. I do have her permission to post them. In fact, she's favourited least one of them on there. However, I don't know as she has the lineart on-line for me to link to.
In order to have those legally there, should I ask Spoiled-Kitten to upload her original too? Or is it enough to have clear evidence of her permission?

If you have a mutual agreement and she's given you permission, it's A-OK. Regardless, it's always a good idea to state that you have permission from so-and-so to colour the line art (and link to their MB page instead of the line art if it's not on MB/online), just in case some sort of confusion arises in the future (where people might think you stole the line art and are claiming it as yours, etc etc).
Hope this makes sense!

That does! Thank you very much for the clarification.
cool. thanks for clearing things up!
Wooaah. You are awesome, Future Self. 8DD This explains a whole lot. Now I won't feel so nervous submitting art anymore, haha! xD;
Jumping on the bandwagon, buuut, I'm so glad MB doesn't allow vector traces. SO HAPPY INDEED.
KUDOS TARAH, KUDOS.

Yesss I think that's a huge difference and a big relief for most of us that MB doesn't allow vector-traces!

aaa~ here it is~ a clear and simplified explaination of "how not to be banned" lawl. *just kiddin* congrats on posting this journal, i know many people are confused and ya explained things so clearly! *patpat*
btw, i have a question...(just tell yourself your answerin' a question from someone retarded! >_>")...what's the vector/trace thingie, please? *scratches head* cuz i heard alot 'bout it but never really knew...*shot*

"How not to be banned" <- LOL haha :'D That's an interesting way to look at it!
Thankyou
*is patted*

I'll give some examples of a vector trace... it's when you find a screen shot (or original art) from an Anime (or manga sometimes, but rarely!) and trace over it in Photoshop or Illustrator.
Screenshot --> Vector trace
Original anime art --> Vector trace
You can see vector traces are really just exact replicas of the original art... hope it makes sense!
And you're not retarded LOLL you're just lucky to not know what it is... those of us who do are infuriated at dA for accepting vectors in their gallery... It's very disappointing! It's just copying, and these vector artists are often more popular than your average artist who is completely original, too. :/ It's a bit of a pain!
Thankyou

I'm glad you asked, because I didn't have a clue either. The response to you just enlightened me too.
lawl! glad i could help! xD
I love the "3- deviantART didn't delete my (traced/vector) artwork! SEE??!?! It's proof that I made it!!" xDDDDDDD

You are so nice, making this for all ppl who didn't read <it>

XD! I've seen that a few times too many, so I had to address it in here!
Haha, I try to be nice ><! I just hope this will clear some things up and maybe help reduce policy violations in the future!
People SHOULD technically read the policy, since every time they submit something, they are agreeing to the rules by checking the box!

I totaaly agree all you said. xD
To be honest the "no tracing or vector tracing" rule is enough to lure me into this site u___u When I found out it was legal on deviantart to trace I felt sick to my stomach especially when those artworks are in the running for top faves. *sighs* But you cant fix everything...haha I may come over here indefinitely. We'll see how my stay goes.
I completely agree. I held so much respect for them up until that point, I was planning on buying all this dA merchandise and a subscription to support them and show how much I appreciated the site... but then.. BAM. It was like a slap in the face. I was truly disappointed.
It's true, so it's a fault, and you can't have everything. But I hope you do enjoy your stay here.
It's true, so it's a fault, and you can't have everything. But I hope you do enjoy your stay here.
me too! It could be fun to be part of a site who's main focus seems to be anime and manga (and views it as an art form instead of categorizing it as no better than tracing) but doesnt restrict other art forms as well. You know...despite the no tracing rule a twilight gridded artwork that was copied from the movie poster was removed for copyright infringement...so that really IS my theory. Tracing is okay as long as its anime since anime isn't art...u__u Its going to be really hard to leave deviantart...I have so much there...but at the same time...I'm tired of the mods making realllly stupid decisions
Ditto that... Though I didn't know about dA removing other traced things.. I thought they were accepting tracing in general, but if they removed the Twilight poster because it was traced over, but not Anime-vector traces, it is basically saying "anime isn't art, so trace all ye like, kiddies!" ... well, that seriously sucks.
I know what you mean, I can't completely leave deviantART because it's where I met and found some of my old friends again, so it's a bit nostalgic. I still log on every few days to check what I have to check, but like, I'm not active there for the sole reason that the dA mods are inconsistent and that there's so much drama... and everything's like a popularity contest.. blah. It's just friendlier here. :]

Wow, that helps to break a lot of it down. And I'm glad that you guys don't support the whole "this screenshot is art!" thing that happens on deviantart all the time. It's annoying as hell to see those around.
Thanks for helping me understand it better. Heh heh, there had been a few things I was confused on.

Yeaah, I agree, it's really annoying to see screen shots and manga pages littered and untended to all over dA... it was actually the reason why I sorta gave up on dA, lol. Not that I hate it, I just became frustrated with the way it was being run, its policies, the drama, etc, etc...

I still say in some respects, terribly handled though deviantArt can be, SheezyArt is worse.
So I've heard... I joined SA a while back, and never used it again apart from the day I made my account, because someone insulted me LOL;; okay that's not the only reason, I was just bored and forgot about it.
The situation at Sheezy seems pretty bad, I've heard some things about it, but yeah, the situation's definitely worse than it is at deviantART.

Super informative!

Haha, it should! But I think people would just skip over it; it's human nature to do that.
I'm just hoping by posting a journal like this that people will be more inclined to read it, especially since it's a bit more simplified.
I'm glad you found it informative ^v^

Not if they were greeted by it first before they could enter anything up an upload >D lol
LOL. Haha, I guess.. but then how do you make sure they've read it?
They could simply click the "I accept" button. I think that's what most people do.
I'm kinda guilty for doing that OTL

Well, that cleared up a few more things in my head :--D
Wow! Cases like that really do happen, huh? You guys are strong! Keep doing what you're doing! You guys are the greatest. ;v;
I love, love, LOVE the whole no screenshot/tracing vector uploads. Those piss me off when I go to DA. I want to see ART.
