Storyline of new Rumiko Takahashi manga out

Previous reports have confirmed a new Rumiko Takahashi manga coming out. The 20th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday this year will reveal on Wednesday the title of the manga Kyōkai no Rinne, as part of Takahashi's newest Rumic World series.

The story is about Sakura Mamiya, a girl who can see ghosts after an incident during her childhood. One day, she gets a mysterious "visitation" and the story moves on from there.

The manga will launch with the 21st issue of the magazine and ships April 22. Viz Media has announced that it will publish the manga in North America this year. The company has been releasing most of Takahashi's manga in North America, including several of their anime adaptations.

Oh... It sounds a bit disappointing, especially after reading her earlier works. As long as it's not another InuYasha, it's all good. :D

I'm rather dubious of this...Is is going to be the same old boring cliched plot? The blurb is supposed to get you excited and this synopsis just isn't doing it for me....

Well...that's a story we haven't heard before! Breathtaking and new! WOW...seriously, Taka-sensei tricked me once with Inuyasha (Ranma 1/2 in feudal Japan)...she won't get me again with this Bleach/YuuYuu whatever crap.

With no doubt the story will be loved, she's developed a fanbase that she can literally repackage the same story, add different designs and I will still see that crap all over cons.

Man, I miss the days of Mermaid Scar, Maris the Chojo, One pound Gospel and Maison Ikkou....I think it's time for Taka-sensei to hang it up.

Oh yeah. Those were the good ones. I especially love Mermaid's Scar, as it was so dark and macabre compared to her other works.

Perhaps the fact that I never really kept up with Inu Yasha is keeping me optimistic about this. Sure I started the manga (I was thirsty for anything Takahashi back then) but I stopped when it started to get dragging for years. So I can't claim to be a blind fan but rather a fan who's willing to look at this objectively then make a judgment after I've seen it.

Oh no, No dissing the fans at all baby, we're all fans and we each have a Taka-sensei work that we're in love with. I only read a handful of the Inu mangas but I watched the show religiously...before I realized that I can guess things before it happened in the show and cashed in my chips.

Most fans are bitter after Inuyasha, a story with potential to go somewhere that fell apart...this story just sounds beneath her. I mean maybe if she made this story BEFORE Inuyasha came out then it would be a different story....but now, I mean cmon, a chick that can see dead people? For real? Seriously? C'mon, she can do sooooooo much better then that.

I'm critical on her because she's a legend, she's one the greats..but lately, she's suffering from the CLAMP issue....don't get me started on that fuck pile (no offense to CLAMP fans...)

But you're right, we don't know much about it yet so hopefully it'll be a winner with new fans and old fans alike. We can only hope.

You're right. I think the most critical of any body (artist, writer, actor) would be their fans because they hold their idols on such high esteem that if they fall from that, it's the fans who will really be disappointed.

Haha, ditto on the CLAMP issue. I'm a CLAMP fan myself, but I'm seeing well... you get my drift.

Those in the North America should be able to read the first chapter of Rin-ne today. It's being released simultaneously in Japan and the NA, with the latter being online. You can read it here.

I'm thinking that most manga-ka have various trademark "things" in their work: from drawing styles, hand signs, storylines... Pick any particular manga-ka (either a solo artist, duo or group) and you're bound to find similarities in most of their work, one way or another.

It's odd though. Most of the things that many people here are commenting that they don't like are the things that attract me to a Takahashi manga. I think many who know her know her only through Inu Yasha and Ranma 1/2. Try reading her older works and you'll find that though there are the common elements you saw in Inu Yasha and Ranma 1/2 (brash, overconfident young men who can't admit they love the tomboyish but sweet young lady anyone?), you can also find them standing out from her other works.

As far as I know, and I'm basing this on her previous ones, anything in the Rumic World title is mostly a one shot rather than a series, though there is no mention if Rinne will be a series or not. I have the graphic novels published by Viz and they are all standalone stories, dealing with various genres: romance, horror/occult/macabre, drama and so on.

That's true, every managka has some sort of formula that they follow and have wonderful things that we know in love.

But after the Inuyasha mess, many old schoolers (such as myself and others) see this newest story as sort of a...well...from what we have so far, weak...very weak.

But you're right, perhaps Taka-sensei will surprise us, I know for a fact that when she tries she makes stellar work worthy of the title Queen of Manga. Let's hope that this one will be a reminder of that...

I'm hoping she'll redeem herself here... if not, then she'll have another very disappointed fan. :(

LOL! Yeah, it happens, mangaka are people too...they lose creative juices now and then. However we're expecting great things from her.

I suppose I know to little to bash it yet. I am not really a die hard fan of her, but her stories never fail to entertain me, lets hope she changed a bit the formula. Though I still want to check it out anyway.

Wow! Again?! How many people are excited and how many of you guys are discouraging? If the world likes it, like North America, then that means it has something special to it! (but personally, the plot does sound like many other mana/anime, but I hope its good, and no more love triangles...! Please!)

I ... do like Rumiko Takahashi's works. But this one doesn't sound as creative as her other ones. Well, she's a talented mangaka, so I'll still give it a shot when it comes out.

It still feels like Bleach/YuyuHakusho/Eerie Querie/Heaven's Will... augh.
