Universal Pictures International Entertainment announced that they will acquire Geneon Entertainment on Wednesday in Tokyo. Universal plans to merge Geneon with Universal Pictures Japan to create a new entity which Universal will own the majority of the shares with Dentsu owning the rest of the shares. Geneon Entertainment, a DVD distributor and an animation producer, will work Universal Pictures Japan to produce and distribute home entertainment content in Japan. The deal is scheduled for completion early next year.
