Club Policy
Revision 1August 30, 2008
Joining and managing clubs are great ways to find new friends and share your passions. But to ensure the system remains safe and fun, we've put together a policy with some guidelines.
Club basics
Refrain from creating general clubs; for example, clubs for "fans of anime or manga." MangaBullet wholly represents the lovers of manga, anime and Japanese culture. It is a waste of your free club and will not attract a lot of attention and members. Use the featured clubs as a guide to help you create, and manage a truly unique club.
To create a club, visit the clubs home and click on either "Start an online club" or "Start a real-world club" on the right-hand side of the page. Each member gets a free club when they register at MangaBullet but all clubs after that cost 50 sen to create. This prevents members from creating too many inactive clubs.
There is no limit to the amount of clubs a person can create or moderate. However, realise that after your free club you will have to pay to create additional clubs. Abusing the privilege of a free club will result in an indefinite ban and immediate closure of your clubs.
Permitted clubs
Any club is permitted, providing it is appropriate. Please check if your club idea already exists. If so please avoid making the club so we may prevent inactive duplicates.
If moderators find inappropriate content being shared and displayed in your club without being marked as mature or not safe for work (nsfw), it may result in closure of the club. Items that qualify as mature content include the following:
* Erotic or suggestive imagery
* Exposure of uncensored breasts or genitalia
* Excessive violence or gore
Clubs which are sharing illegal materials or personal information, are causing disturbances amongst the MangaBullet community, or are in violation of the Terms of Service, may be closed indefinitely without warning.
Official clubs
Whenever a new franchise for a franchise is created by MangaBullet staff, an official club accompanies it and it is run by Clubot by default. This club is listed on the franchise page in MangaBullet's directory.
If a club for a franchise already exists before its franchise is made, a moderator will send a private message to the president of the club or its moderators and ask for permission to list that club as the official club, providing the club is well maintained. This is to avoid creating a duplicate club for the franchise.
Club presidency
When you create a club, you automatically become president of that club. You cannot pass your presidency to any other member with online clubs.
In the case you want to become president of another club that is listed as an official club and associated with a correspoinding franchise, please contact a Community Moderator. He or she will appoint you as the president of the club providing you qualify.
Club moderation
If you are the president or moderator of a club, you may access the control panel by clicking on the three links under the club banner on any page at the club. Write or edit blogs by clicking on "New blog post" or "Manage blog." By clicking "Moderate club," you can change the description, emblem and background banner of the club. You can also manage moderators or demote existing moderators you find unfit of the position under "Moderators." And if need be, you can ban members from interacting with your club. You must use this feature sparingly, and may not abuse the privilege.
Can I moderate an existing club?
Yes. You must be a member of the club and ask for the president or moderators to promote you to the status of a moderator.
If it is an official club under the management of Clubot, you may request to be president or moderator by sending a private message to a Community Moderator.
Featured clubs
Featured clubs are clubs that the Community Moderators find very unique or active and feel they deserve extra attention. These clubs serve as role models because they have good organisation and activities, and a committed community of moderators and members. Please do not ask to be featured; the Community Moderators will decide on appropriate clubs to feature.
Original clubs have a better chance of becoming featured because of their unique layouts and activities, whereas fan clubs represent specific things and that in itself is the content. The MangaBullet team does not want fan clubs to be competing for the spotlight and thus fan clubs for anime and manga will only be featured under special circumstances.
About Clubot
Clubot is an account where official clubs without a "real" president are listed. When a franchise is first created with its corresponding official club, Clubot is set by default to become club president. It is an inactive account, rarely updated. Therefore, your requests to moderate a club should be sent to a Community Moderator and not to Clubot's account.
This policy may be amended in the future.
