Practice

I was thinking today that I really ought to get some more practice with landscapes. Problem is, I'm not all that interested in painting them unless there's some sort of critter in the picture, as well. I'm not an art student, so I don't really know how you're "officially" supposed to practice at this. So, I was curious about how others learned about these things, or at least how you motivate yourself to learn something that you know is good for you, but isn't particularly exciting. :)
